Obama's Hope and Change / Black caucus: Tired of making excuses for Obama

During a sometimes-raucous session of what's being called the "For the People" Jobs Initiative tour, a key member of the Congressional Black Caucus told an audience in Detroit Tuesday that the CBC doesn't put pressure on President Obama because he is loved by black voters.  But at the same time, Rep. Maxine Waters said, members of the CBC are becoming increasingly tired and frustrated by Obama's performance on the issue of jobs. Even as she expressed support for the president, Waters virtually invited the crowd to "unleash us" to pressure Obama for action.

"We don't put pressure on the president," Waters told the audience at Wayne County Community College.  "Let me tell you why. We don't put pressure on the president because ya'll love the president. You love the president. You're very proud to have a black man -- first time in the history of the United States of America. If we go after the president too hard, you're going after us."

The problem, Waters said, is that Obama is not paying enough attention to the problems of some black Americans.  The unemployment rate for African-Americans nationally is a little over 16 percent, and almost twice that in Detroit.  And yet, Waters said, the president is on a jobs-promotion trip through the Midwest that does not include any stops in black communities.  "The Congressional Black Caucus loves the president too," Waters said.  "We're supportive of the president, but we're getting tired, y'all.  We're getting tired. And so, what we want to do is, we want to give the president every opportunity to show what he can do and what he's prepared to lead on. We want to give him every opportunity, but our people are hurting. The unemployment is unconscionable. We don't know what the strategy is. We don't know why on this trip that he's in the United States now, he's not in any black community.  We don't know that."

As she discussed her dilemma -- frustrated with the president but hesitant to criticize him lest black supporters turn on her -- Waters asked the crowd for its permission to have a "conversation" with the president.  "When you tell us it's alright and you unleash us and you tell us you're ready for us to have this conversation, we're ready to have the conversation," she said.  Some members of the crowd immediately voiced their approval.

"All I'm saying to you is, we're politicians," Waters continued.  "We're elected officials.  We are trying to do the right thing and the best thing. When you let us know it is time to let go, we'll let go."

"Let go!" some in the audience yelled.

Obama's Hope and Change / Obama Rides $1.2M Bus Made in Canada on Jobs Tour
« Last post by George on August 17, 2011, 10:04:43 PM »
What in the world is this?  Obama has taken 2 1/2 years to finally talk about jobs and putting America back to work, and what does he do?  He rides around in an expensive bus made in Canada of all places!  There are custom coach companies right here in the USA that could have easily done the work.  This is ridiculous.

It turns out that President Barack Obama’s multistate tour on jobs and the economy is taking place in a $1.2 million bus that was made in Canada rather than the United States.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus blasted Obama’s choice of a Canadian bus for the tour during a conference call with reporters Wednesday.

“We don't believe that it is any coincidence that the president is embarking on this sham jobs tour in his Canadian bus,” Priebus said. “He is doing this because this bus tour is nothing but another campaign jaunt for this president, who, as we all know, is absolutely in love with being the campaigner in chief.

"This is an outrage that the taxpayers of this country would have to foot the bill so that the campaigner-in-chief can run around in his Canadian bus and act as if he is interested in creating jobs in our country,” Priebus said.

Priebus also advised the president to spend more time in the White House finding ways to fix chronically high unemployment, rather than “planning his next vacation in Martha’s Vineyard.”

Obama and his family are scheduled to begin their annual vacation in exclusive Martha’s Vineyard after the bus tour. White House officials say the presidency and its responsibilities essentially travel with Obama, no matter where he goes. But Priebus wasn’t buying it.

"Two weeks ago, the president said that his number one focus would be jobs,” Priebus said. “And he promised, like he always likes to do through speeches, to put together a jobs plan. But yet again we have no plan from the president. We have no engagement from the president.”

The White House says Obama will speak to the nation about his job proposals in a post-Labor Day speech.

The New York Post reported Wednesday that Obama is barnstorming the heartland aboard a bus built by Quebec-based Prevost. The VIP H-45 model is a top-of-the-line bus that many rock bands use while on tour. It is equipped with armored doors and has other state-of-the-art security features, as well as Secret Service equipment.

According to the Post, officials ordered two of the Canadian-made buses in July 2010 from a Tennessee firm, Hemphill Brothers Coach. Hemphill Brothers installed custom upgrades to the interior before delivering the buses two months ago.

According to the Secret Service, when the president isn’t using the buses, they will be available to others under Secret Service protection. This could include the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, the Post reports.

Obama's Hope and Change / Poll: Independents Leave Obama in Droves

President Barack Obama’s approval has fallen so far, so fast with independent voters that many of them won’t even admit they voted for him anymore.

According to the pollster who conducted an exclusive Newsmax/InsiderAdvantage survey released Tuesday, independents are “off the Richter scale” in registering their disapproval of the president’s job performance, just as the president is heading off on a 10-day vacation to Martha's Vineyard with his family.

The poll shows 61 percent of the independent voters that swept Obama to victory in 2008 now either “somewhat disapprove” or “disapprove” of the president’s job performance.

Locals send a message to the president in Peosta, Iowa. (Getty Images) Only 40 percent of independents surveyed admitted they voted for Obama, compared to the 52 percent who gave him their vote in November 2008, according to CNN exit polling.

“What we’re seeing is people denying the fact that they were involved in the Obama presidency,” InsiderAdvantage CEO Matt Towery tells Newsmax. “It’s a drop due to people who just will not say they voted for Barack Obama.”

Towery described independents’ disenchantment with Obama’s performance as “off the Richter scale.” Political scientists say the prime directive for presidential candidates is that they must win the swing vote in order to triumph in the general election.
Democratic pollster and Fox News commentator Doug Schoen struck a pessimistic note over whether the president’s current strategy, which relies on blasting congressional Republicans while promising new jobs proposals next month, can turn things around.

“The polls show the president is sinking,” Schoen tells Newsmax. “To reverse that, he needs a consistent approach -- something that has been noticeably lacking as he veers from partisanship to non-partisanship, with a dose of populism occasionally baked in.

“Obama can win,” Schoen adds, “but lacks a plan to revitalize the economy, create jobs, and spur economic growth. And absent that bold new agenda, it really doesn’t matter how the president positions himself politically.”

Jackson, Mississippi (CNN) -- A hit-and-run killing that took place after a group of white teens allegedly set out to kill a black man simply because of his color is now being investigated by the U.S. Justice Department, federal and Mississippi officials tell CNN.

The killing, which a Jackson, Mississippi, district attorney says is a racially motivated hate crime, sparked national attention after CNN obtained and aired exclusive surveillance video  that shows the attack as it took place.
James Craig Anderson, 49, was first beaten by the group of teens as he stood in a hotel parking lot early on the morning of June 26, according to some of the teens who were interviewed by police.

After the beating, a group of the teens drove a large Ford pickup truck over Anderson, according to witnesses and officials. Anderson died from his injuries later the same day.

Deryl Dedmon Jr., right, could face two life sentences in connection with the killing. John Aaron Rice, left, has been charged with simple assault.

Federal investigators are in Jackson at the request of Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith, who says he will be seeking indictments against some or all of the white teens in coming weeks.

"This was a racially motivated murder, committed because the victim was black. We want to prosecute and bring justice in this case to the fullest extent of the law," said Smith, explaining that he called Justice Department officials and asked for more investigators to come to Mississippi to help interview witnesses and pursue leads in the crime.
Under federal law, authorities can pursue further charges and punishment if it is determined that a crime was racially motivated. Officials from the U.S. Department of Justice confirmed to CNN that "the department has an ongoing investigation."

Obama's Hope and Change / Glenn Beck: Michelle Obama Behind Biracial Spider-Man

(NEWSER) – Glenn Beck seems to think the new half-black, half-Hispanic Ultimate Spider-Man is part of some kind of conspiracy to change America. On his radio show yesterday, Beck groused about the change. “The new Spider-Man is really quite great, he looks just like President Obama,” he deadpanned, in a moment spotted by Media Matters. “Do I care if he’s half Hispanic, all Hispanic? No. Half black? I don’t care. I really don’t care. Half gay, all gay? I don’t really care! It’s a stupid comic book.”

“However, what I do care about,” Beck continued, “is the fact that I think a lot of this stuff is being done intentionally.” Then he played a clip of Michelle Obama saying that “We’re going to have to change our traditions,” which Beck views as a smoking gun of sorts. “I know this is just one small, stupid example but really? We now have a half-black, half-hispanic, gay Spider-Man?”

Obama's Hope and Change / Blame Obama for the Wrecked Economy
« Last post by George on August 10, 2011, 09:33:45 PM »
Quoting from the article...

President Obama, the Democratic Party and their members of Congress have spent years blaming former President George W. Bush for the nation's current economic woes, which is akin to blaming the bank's tellers for a bank robbery, or for the dishonesty of their bosses, the bank's executives who were looting the till.

Nobody in the left-dominated media bothers to note that in the last years of the Bush presidency Democrats controlled the Congress and thus had a death grip on the nation's economy, having complete control over the nation's purse strings.

They spent and spent and spent the yet-uncollected taxes of future generations — as well as our own — as if there were no tomorrow.

It wasn't a Bush Congress that jammed the incredible costs of Obamacare down the throats of the American people and their children and grandchildren — it was our spendthrift president and his allies on Capitol Hill doing their classic imitation of the legendary drunken sailors on shore leave.

It's simply common sense to understand that spending money one doesn't have in the hopes that the future will provide the needed funds is something like believing that some beneficent tooth fairy will come up with the money in the future.

Now the president and the national Democratic Party have suddenly discovered a scapegoat for the latest economic mess they have thrust upon the American people. They insist that the credit-rating downgrade was the fault of the tea party trying to control the nation's purse strings. I'm not kidding. They really expect us to swallow this whopper as the gospel truth.

They expect us to ignore the fact that the millions of tea party members are simply Americans deeply and sincerely concerned about the nation's economy and the tendency of the government to spend their hard-earned tax money on whatever scam strikes its fancy.

It's time to place the blame for our economic malaise where it belongs — on the shoulders of the Obama administration and the Democrats in Congress.
