Blacks Promoting Interracial Dating – Is It Good for Society or a Product of Self-Hate?

*A Black Los Angeles business woman recently launched a dating website ( which seeks to pair Black women with white men.

According to 32-year-old Shon Anthony, she has been “amazed” at the number of emails she has received from people expressing interest in her services.

Meanwhile, similar dating services are springing up across the internet. Some cater to Black men seeking to date white or Asian American women.

But are such services a good thing. Does the idea of African Americans “chasing” after whites for dates or marriage present a degrading picture of self-hating Blacks trying to escape from their race?

Interracial marriage has been legal in the United States since the 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Loving v. Virginia. Such relationships are on the rise but they still represent an extreme minority. For example, according to the latest data from the Census Bureau, 3.7 percent of Black women have a non-Black spouse. But the number of Black men with a non-Black spouse stands more than double that at 8.4 percent. Figures on who is dating whom are much more difficult to come by.
